Amy came to me as a butterfly depicts the late singer Amy Winehouse, dressed in black. This image epitomises the look she was famous for; from the beehive to the tattoos, she was a beautiful subject to paint.
The title of the piece comes from her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield, who believes Amy to have been present at her own funeral, in the form of a black butterfly. A poignant notion that a loved one can still be with us after they've gone is represented in this piece, while the transience of the butterfly draws parallels wth the short, yet meaningful life that the star lived.
